Faerie
Faerie is a term generally used to refer to a group of winged humanoids that live on the Island of Yuriba. It can also, in the context of the outside world, refer to a variety of spirits both benevolent and malevolent.
Faeries Native to Yuriba
The typical Yuriban faerie is somewhere between four and six feet tall, and is usually of a fairly lithe build. Their hair color and eye color can range along any color of the rainbow, as well as typical browns and black. All of them have some form of insect-like wings, often mimicking those of a butterfly or dragonfly, though occasionally faeries with moth-like wings are found as well.
The indigenous faeries are usually apt with the local forms of druidic magic, being denizens of Underhill and tied into the local myths and stories just as much as the kitsune are. However, they do not usually show an advanced proficiency with divine magic, as most faeries tend to attach themselves to different Goddesses at different times in their life, though they usually favor the four elemental Goddesses. Fae have an affinity to one or two of the elements in specific. Their hair color, eye color, and (in cases where it is present) wing color often reflects this affinity. It is not uncommon, for example, to see a blue haired faerie who has a particular affinity for water or the air. This affinity can change over time, and due to this some faeries may progress through several 'natural' hair colors and eye colors throughout the course of their life. Because of this they are often said to be the more flighty and carefree members of the local races on the island, though this, like any other generalization, does not always hold true.
There are, on occasion, faeries who do serve as Priestesses or, rarely, High Priestesses. In most cases these are attached to one of the deities that embody an element, such as Issui, Amanohara, Chikyuu, or Kaika However, most fae that hear a calling to serve the Island and The Lady do so as Guardians.
Faeries from Outside of Yuriba
Fae that arrive on the Island from places other than Underhill are generally considered outsiders by the local fae, and while not hostile toward the outsiders, the locals generally do not allow them into Underhill, or the other homes of the native Fae population.
