Chikyuu

Chikyuu is the Yuriban deity associated with the earth, but specifically in the sense of stone, rock, dirt, and gemstones. A relatively minor goddess, she is still important to those interested in excavation, stonework, metalworking, gemcutting, and other related crafts. Evidence from a few archaeological sites on the island shows small icons or shrines to her seem to often be associated with the workshops of these fields. She is known to have a hidden temple, referred to as Chikyuu's Heart; the faerie Soled used to tend to it.

Symbols

Chikyuu's colors are muted shades of brown, although these are often accented by tiny flashes of gem or metallic tones. Along with these colors, workshop shrines to Chikyuu often display a symbol that looks like a woman's eye inside of a faceted gemstone. Local legend suggests that the foothills that surround Engetsu-san and Akibimi-san to the south are associated with her. All varieties are the family of semiprecious gemstones known as Jasper are considered to be her sacred stones. The Diaoxiangnyanniichuan is said to be associated with her.

Music

Many of Chikyuu's followers believe that the drums are best for trying to communicate with the Goddess. The vibrations from larger drums especially are said to resonate deep into the earth, thus reaching Chikyuu's ears with ease. A number of ceremonies involve the usage of drums because of this. Chikyuu's temples often feature a drum that is used to measure one's breathing during meditation.

Chikyuu is also responsible for the creation of singing stones. It is often said that Chikyuu created these special stones so that she could use music to woo Engetsu. While the deep sounds of a drum would go down towards herself, the bell-like notes of the singing stones are meant to rise up into the sky.

Mythology

In Yuriban mythos, Chikyuu is best known as the lover of Engetsu. She is the one who supposedly transformed Engetsu and Akibimi to the mountains named after them. Local legend holds that this occurred when the three deities met on a frost bridge that Akibimi had made between the sky and earth so that Engetsu and Chikyuu could be together collapsed. Chikyuu is also the goddess to find the minor goddess Melit, and the patient goddess is in a perpetual game of hide and seek with the young explorer.
