Turret Mushrooms
Primarily growing within the darkness provided by the Yami no Matsui, the Turret Mushroom can be found in abundance at the base of the jet-black pines.
Appearance and Characteristics
Growing densely, and having the same jet-black colour of the tree it most often grows around, it's rather easy to overlook the smooth, rounded domes of these mushrooms. The stalk of the fungi are extremely short, causing the domes to actually partially imbede into the ground, and perhaps give rise to the name for them.
Effects and Usage
Being naturally spicy, but not 'hot', many native dishes tend to call for turret mushrooms, mostly as garnishes, or on its own, braised in a buttery garlic sauce. They can also be used in some salves; powdered turret mushroom being an effective base and 'neutral' ingredient, allowing it to bind other ingredients together.
