Yami no Matsui
The black pine, known locally as the yami no matsui, is a species of pine tree commonly found in areas of high magical potential.
Appearance and Characteristics
The name, Yami no Matsui, derives primarily from the fact that its wood and foliage is completely jet-black; additionally, it performs a hyperagitated form of photosynthesis that absorbs the surrounding light. The presence of a black pine will actually make an area darker.
Effects and Usage
The black pine has several commercial uses. The sap, pitch, and needles of the black pine are all used as a popular method to protect those with light-sensitive eyes. It is also much prized by carpenters and other woodworkers due to its lack of visible grain and perfect coloration even when dried. In addition, the sap and needles can be boiled into a tea that acts as an extremely powerful relaxant: however, as overdose has been known to result in coma or death, this should only be administered by those trained in how to safely measure a dose.
Also, evidence supports the use the bark and extract for vampires to use as a daily medication, relieving some of the discomfort due to sunlight in either the form of a weak tea, or as a lotion applied to the skin. Again, this should only be administered by those trained to safely measure a dose, as even vampires are still affected just as readily by the powerful relaxant.
