Physical Description
In her normal form, Riaru is a large feline with red eyes, about the size of a large panther. Her black fur is short and coarse during the summer months but it does grow out in the colder seasons. Faint stripes of dark grey break up her outline and help serve as a natural camoflage, to aid in her hunting. She walks about on four large paws, each holding five inch-long claws. These can make her rather clumsy when trying to perform delicate tasks, but they are ideal for hunting. Her two most striking features, the things that set her apart from other felines are her wings and her voice. Riaru's wings are large and feathered, with a wingspan of about 12 feet and the same colouration as her fur. Her skeletal structure is light, well evolved for flight, but it can make her a bit delicate. Her other striking feature is her voice, when she does decide to use it. When she does speak, she speaks in a musical tone, but there is an echo in the voice, as if someone else is saying exactly what she says a fraction of a second later. Because of this echo, human speech is difficult and confusing for her in this form, which makes her speech slow. This can make her seem a little less intelligent than your average yuriban, but an extended conversation with her would prove this assumption to be false.
After about a year on Yuriba, Aurane managed to get a hold of some of the Island's jusenkyuo water and decided to try a little bit of an experiment, splashing Riaru with it. This had the unforseen affect of granting Riaru a human form. In her human form she stands about five feet tall with a slim, gymnast-esque build. Her hair reaches down to her shoulders and is coloured the same as her fur is in her tam form. She retains her red eyes, but instead of fur she has dark, caramel skin. When she first gained this form, she was unsteady and downright wobbly, but seems to have adapted and regained her sense of balance after a few years of getting used to being humanish.
Personality
Riaru can be a little slow and untrusting when faced with a group of people she is unfamiliar with. Even if she does know the group in question, she can be a little cynical of other people and their opinions. When she is involved in a conversation, she takes her time and clearly thinks about what she is going to say. At times, she can seem a little patronizing though, as she believes that she is higher on the food chain, and thus better than most of the humanish folks that inhabit the island. She can sometimes use this feeling of superiority as a defense mechanism, to shut herself off from other folks and chase them away. She's gone as far as claiming most of the island as her territory and she has been known to chase off other people attempting to hunt "her" game. Once her respect is earned though, she can open up a little and be generally friendly, but rarely animated.
History
Riaru came to Yuriba in the fall of 2002, searching for her village and friends. Thanks to the deforestation of the rain forest, her habitat was being destroyed and her way of life was being threatened. This also had the unfortunate side effect of bringing her species into greater contact with the local human farmers and shepards. These people only saw the tams claws and their teeth, and the treat they posed to their livestock, so they decided to remove the village, chopping down the trees and burning their nests to the ground. The tams survived, escaping deeper into the forest, but Riaru was separated from her family and friends. How she ended up all the way in Yuriba is only known to her and she doesn't seem to want to share that information.
Since arriving in Yuriba though, she's settled down and claimed most of the island as her territory. The main exceptions to this is the coastal waters, which she recognizes as Atara's fishing grounds, and Yuriba Park, which she recognizes as the territory of breisleach.
On a recent trip from the island, she was finally able to locate her relocated village and family, but due to several factors, she splits her time in Yuriba and back with her friends and family in her village.
Relationships
Riaru has been around Yuriba for quite a while, and as such, has developed several ties to the population of Yuriba, but she has been jaded by the fact that most of her friends that she spent her time with have since departed the island. Her remaining friends, so to speak consists mainly of breisleach, Atara, Ruriko, Genesis Magite and Aurane. However, since most of her friends have moved on, she is making an effort to meet some of the newcomers who have arrived in their place.
