Priestess
OOC: Becoming a Priestess |
There is no formal RP or OOC process to become a priestess of a Yuriban deity. In most cases, there's no precedents set for what the deity's worship and rituals are like - look at the goddess's wiki page to be sure, though. Therefore, one simply chooses to become a priestess and may either RP their training as self-directed learning through books such as those available at the Starlight Shrine or as if it is occuring through NPC characters from Underhill off screen. They are welcome to create, develop, and RP rituals, priestess garb, etc. as needed for their character. |
As in many religions, in the context of Yuriban Animism priestesses are trained individual who act as agents and intermediaries for the divine, as well as taking up counseling and other roles in the community. Those priestesses who are also trained in working specific types of nature magic are also referred to as druids. Most priestesses focus instead of the learning and performing of religious ritual, philosophy, and counseling.
Yuriban culture is fairly informal in regards to training priestesses, usually considering it an ongoing process of learning and development, much of it self-driven, believed to demonstrate devotion and a willingness to invest time and effort to the goddess. Certain elaborate religious rituals and the development of druidic talents do tend to involve more structured, formal training, at least in comparison.
Outside of obvious religious duties, priestesses often perform a variety of community functions. The majority perform marriage and baptismal ceremonies, as well as attending on the sick or needy. Providing counseling, advice, and support to those around them are also considered important parts of a priestess's daily routine. Specific deities also often have other realms that their clergy work in – for example, Harumeku's priestesses divine and record true names, while Chikyuu's priestesses are expected to help craft and build community infrastructures like temples and aqueducts.
