True name
Among native Yuribans, a true name is believed to be the name of an indvidual's soul or spirit. Traditionally, this name is divined by the priestesses of Harumeku at a child's first birthday. (The divination ceremony is performed posthumously on the occasion that an individual dies before reaching that age.) This name is then recorded in special archives accessible only to priestesses of the various goddesses in certain circumstance. There is some evidence that part of the reason these archives are guarded even long after an individual has passed on is that the spiral on an individual soul can be tracked via the recurrence of their true name.
The one other time when a true name is commonly revealed is when an individual as seen as having reached adulthood or maturity in their native culture. They then return to Harumeku's temple and are told their true name. For many individuals, this is the only time they hear their true name spoken; it is rarely shared even with immediate family or spouses.
The reason for this is that natives believe that knowledge of a person's true name gives you power over them, sometimes even the ability to control or compel the individual. Additionally, the true name of an individual often reflects their essence as it will become or needs to be, something that many do not want to address fully or reveal to others. The power of a true name does allow priestesses to work certain protective magics or rituals that may not be possible otherwise; all of these rituals are considered only as desperate, last ditch efforts.
