Melanie is a native Faerie of slightly unusual appearance; she has wings of a moth rather than those of a butterfly or dragonfly. The white and black spotted wings are a standout feature of the otherwise average looking fae. Having felt a strong calling to Tsuki, Melanie is one of the goddesses few dedicated priestesses.

Personality

Private and quiet, Melanie is not a terribly outgoing person. If not kind she is most certainly polite, a bit guarded around the natives, slightly more open with the immigrants. She's slow to anger or any strong emotion, but when she reaches the point, she feels her emotions strongly and without shame.

Curiosity is a somewhat new experience for her, a feeling long thought to have died within her, finds itself sparked again since her journey to Overhill.

Biography

Extremely private, Melanie is only really open with one aspect of her life, that which lead her to devotion to Tsuki, parallels to her Goddesses' story not lost on the fae woman. When a young girl, Melanie was very close to her sister, a 'near twin' born only two years before she, the two having an intensely close relationship. Her sister had a minor physical deformity in that one of her wings did not form correctly, which didn't allow her to fly, keeping the older fae earthbound, Melanie happily and quite willingly staying on the ground with her despite her wings being just fine. This handicap lead her sibling to become more adventurous and to find as many ways to make up for not being able to see the world from above as she could. Less adventurous than her elder sibling, Melanie frequently fretted when her sister would go off to do things that Melanie considered dangerous, the younger fae not feeling she was strong enough to participate and didn't wish to slow her sister down. Dismayed to discover that her sibling had found a love for rock climbing, Melanie begged her to find something else to do, a growing gift for precognition leading the younger fae to believe something terrible would happen.

Unfortunately, she was correct. While climbing in a rocky, mountainous area Underhill that was dedicated to Chikyuu, her sibling was killed in a rockslide that all agreed was quite startling and unusual. Terribly heartbroken and stricken with grief, Melanie retreated into herself, sensing and eventually finding sympathy and understanding from Tsuki, and rejecting any attempts to steer her into Tenteisei's service due to her minor gift. It did not take the fae long to take up the black robes of the Lonely Moon, she often saying she's found greater meaning in her life now than she ever had before.

Driven to explore the 'new' settlement on the island, Melanie left Underhill for the village of Yuriba after another of her prophetic dreams led her there. Quickly drawn to what was once known as the Starlight Shrine, Melanie has applied for and received permission from the Town Council to take the shrine into her care. She's set steadily and eagerly into transforming the building and grounds into a proper place for devotion to her beloved Tsuki, renaming the building to the Moonglow Shrine.

Abilities

Melanie is an accomplished illusionist and artificer. She frequently uses her ability to create images - which can move and act as if solid creatures but emit no sound - for her own occasional amusement or to protect herself. Skilled with imbuing objects with a soft glow, she's most likely to use this to create objects that replace the need for fire or lanterns. Her precognition is considered very minor by the priestesses of Tenteisei, and quite fully out of her control. She tends to only see major, negative events in the future, unable to tell when or how these images will come, though occasionally she will see herself doing something that relates to her job as a Priestess, leading her to personally believe those images are less her ability and more a vision from Tsuki herself.

Relationships

New to Yuriba, Melanie has yet to really interact with many people. She's formed a small friendship with Madeline, finding her interesting and quite well in control of herself, two things Melanie considers ideal traits.

While she's initially reserved and somewhat distrusting of natives, she will be quite polite to the priestesses of the other Goddesses, and has a deep respect for the High Priestess breisleach.
