Patchouli Knowledge is an inhabitant of Gensokyo and a residents of the Scarlet Devil Mansion in its library. She is known to be an incredibly smart youkai magician, but despite her enormous magic power, she is quite physically frail.
In the aftermath of the eruption of the volcano Inishie-san in 2012, Patchouli joined the teaching staff of Rinkei Gakuen and served as vice-principal to Jue Tade. She had already been present on Yuriba prior to Inishie-san's eruption, but in a limited fashion.
Patchouli currently serves as Rinkei Gakuen's principal after Jue's retirement from the school's faculty.
