Ninaeth is a water-dwelling being who arrived in Yuriba in January 2011. A native of a plane locked somewhat in medieval stasis, she has yet to actually put in an appearance save for the occasional glimpse of something large that may be spotted now and them from Yuriba's beaches.
Character
Given that Ninaeth is under most circumstances an immense seafaring ophidian, albeit an intelligent one, her outlook on life is an odd blend of the elementally reptilian and the insightful. Generally she is a serious, level-headed person who conducts herself with an eye towards dignity. Her mannerisms are a bit stilted and formal at times, mostly because she learned them from human nobles under duress, but she's otherwise open-minded and deeply curious about the world beyond the deep oceans and fjords of her origin. She has the heart of an explorer and will usually try anything once just for the sake of discovering something new. She is somewhat distrustful of machines and higher technology and prefers to linger in more natural surroundings, and she has a deep respect for nature as a unified whole with all of its parts codependent on one another. That mindset carries over into her relationships with other people. Respect is very important to her, and she makes a conscious effort to conduct herself in a manner she considers respectable. She's not given to frivolities or even moments of immaturity, and she generally laughs or makes jokes only with friends, once she feels she's earned their respect. Those Ninaeth does not respect tend to know it, largely because she will usually say so in so many words, or at least give plenty of cold-shoulder action.
Philosophically Ninaeth is a deeply patient creature who does not believe in dwelling heavily on her past. She lumps her unpleasant experiences in with her positive ones and flows onward to the future. She is extremely adaptable and responds to change with curiosity and an eagerness to embrace her new situation, and as such she revels in surprises, even the negative ones that put her on her proverbial toes. Ninaeth is consummately mature and tends to deal with her problems in a rational, well thought-out manner, and if they go sour she doesn't dwell on them. She tends not to attract interpersonal drama, and when she does she makes a point of keeping her head level and approaching the situation with a fresh perspective. It's rare to see her lose her temper. While she can be angered, she rarely acts in anything but a deliberate fashion. That said, when she does have to act Ninaeth can be shockingly direct, and when the situation calls for it she has no problem with violence.
Ninaeth has had some exposure to land life but often experiences culture clash while in Yuriba. Among her quirks is that she finds it unsettling to sleep in a bed. When she's on land she usually sleeps in a bathtub. She spends much of her time near the water, both so she can jump back in if she has to and because she finds it comforting to have the sea or at least a lake within shouting distance.
Romantic preferences
Ninaeth tends to be actively polyamorous. Romantically she has a very fluid mindset and believes no emotion is finite, and she considers it disrespectful to her when other women consider her exclusively theirs. In some ways her attitude towards romance is naiad-like in that she flows between relationships without difficulty. That said, Ninaeth is unfond of most casual relationships and will generally only open up romantically towards those she respects, usually friends. She does not consider sex particularly sacred. As a partner Ninaeth tends to value conversation, shared experience and mutual exploration, and she tends to try and talk her lovers into trying new things.
Relationships
As a relative newcomer to Yuriba Ninaeth has had little time to form lasting bonds, but she has developed a close friendship with the naiad Cove and her mate Salix, spending much time in conversation with the pair. She shares a bond of respect with Atara and her mate breisleach. She's known to have once terrified Kinuko. Among those she distrusts is the artificer Irina, whom she views as someone who abuses the power to create life.
