Mother Wolf and Wolf Pup

This pair of constellations within Yuriban society correspond directly to Ursa Major and Ursa Minor on Earth. They always appear at the same place in the night sky, allowing immigrant astrologers to place Yuriba within the Pacific Ocean near Japan. Used to aid in navigation due to their consistent placement in the sky, the wolf and her pup are fondly looked upon by the natives.

Local legend states that Mother Wolf was an alpha wolf which first made her home with her pack upon Engetsu. When the goddess first fell to the island, the wolf brought the deity comfort when she felt the sorrow of her sister still in the sky, Tsuki. Placed in the heavens upon her death, Mother Wolf remains constant to stay as an eternal companion to the once heaven-bound goddess. Some say she’s also there to guard Engetsu, Chikyuu and Akibimi from Tsuki.

Wolf Pup is the spirit of one of her daughters which determinedly chased Mother Wolf into the sky when she was set there. She is said to influence and guide the hearts of those blessed by Langnyanniichuan to follow Engetsu and her mother.
