Vital Statistics

Physical Description

Chase's facial features have been likened to fictional character Kou Taiki/Sailor Star Maker of the Sailor Moon series, but she is quick to deny any such association. Her face is long and angular, with a pointed chin, highish cheekbones, and an aristocratic nose. Almond-shaped grey eyes, slightly upturned at the corners, bear thin brows above them. She has a high forehead that ends in a straight hairline. Her auburn locks are swept straight back, ending in a short ducktail around the middle of her neck. Perpetually adorning her face is a bandage, stretched across the upper bridge of her nose. She stands six feet and two inches tall, her body slim but well-built. Her legs are long and shapely, matching her toned buttocks and somewhat bony hips, while her arms are rounded and strong. Her trapezius muscles are well-developed for a woman, and her shoulders are a bit broad. Chase's chest is modestly proportioned at best. Overall her look is somewhat boyish given her usual choice of concealing attire, allowing one to mistake her for a man even up close.

Chase's typical garb consists of her black aviator's jacket, marked on the sleeve with an American flag and her last name. She is never without her dog tags and her old captain's insignia. Typically she favours turtleneck shirts, faded jeans, heavy boots, one-piece swimsuits, T-shirts, tank tops, straight slacks, and the occasional hoodie.

Psychological Profile

General Personality

On an island full of teenage hedonists Ms. Mitchell stands out as a mature adult with her priorities in good order. Outwardly she tends to adopt a fairly neutral stance to just about everything, conducting herself with a level head and an eye towards her dignity. In most social situations she is cordial, though dragging genuine warmth out of her tends to happen only by earning some of her respect. Chase is intolerant of those she percieves as stupid or flighty and seldom hesitates to verbally stave off the advances of those she dislikes. She is blunt-spoken and brutally honest. She dislikes being fawned over or admired, and she occasionally views random acts of kindness with suspicion. Her sense of humour tends to be fairly terse, and she seldom laughs, even in private. To those she trusts she tends to reveal more of her secrets. Though she takes a great deal of pride in her service in the Air Force she dislikes talking about her discharge and the reasons behind it. She is incapable of giggling; her laughter is typically either a short, barking "Heh" or a wheezy-sounding snicker fit reminiscent of Muttley from Wacky Races.

Pet Peeves

Chase cannot stand being flirted with. She detests giggling and conventional romance, meeting attempts at flirtatious conduct with harsh words or outright absence of acknowledgment. She especially dislikes being approached on a sexual footing by teenagers or people under twenty-one, maintaining that the number of promiscuous teens in Yuriba is a sure sign of the degradation of decent society. Chase dislikes being hugged in public and hates public displays of affection in general.

Romantic Preferences

Ms. Mitchell's romantic life is fairly scant. Her aim is mainly to meet someone sensible, trustworthy, honest, and willing to accept her for who she is. Chase's role in relationships is not limited by conventional structures of dominant and submissive partners; she simply goes about her business as usual and approaches situations as they come. Even when alone with her partner she is not given to extensive displays of affection and tends to keep romantic talk to a minimum, believing that one 'I love you' is enough. She has little need for such validation. While she's been known to snuggle in private, she does so in moderation. Sex and intimate contact are by far secondary concerns to her. For Chase a relationship is more a function of trust and intellectual closeness than a function of sex. As such she's been known to be occasionally enjoy sexual contact outside of a relationship, but only with those she considers friends. She dislikes being touched in public by just about anyone.

Hobbies, Skills, and Employment

Chase's love of flying dates back to her life on a farmstead in Montana. She learned to fly from a young age and is skilled at it. Her residence outside the village is home to a cornfield-style runway, allowing her to take to the air in her personal vehicle and prized possession - an old World War II P-51 Mustang, modified with a very snug second seat. She is able to sustain many Gs of pressure without passing out and can pull off daring stunts in midair with relative ease. A collector of firearms, she owns several guns but does not carry them with her into the village for fear of inciting an incident and out of respect for the sensibilities of the Yuriban populace. Ms. Mitchell is a skilled outdoorswoman and can survive on her own in the wilderness for extensive periods of time. She is an avid fan of 1980s pop and rock and has recently become a fan of real-time strategy video games, devoting occasional spare time to games of Starcraft and several World War II simulators. Perhaps her most refined hobby is musical: She is a skilled violinist.

Chase is currently unemployed.

Relations

Ms. Mitchell considers Aii, Coral, and Nadia Marchand to be her only friends. Her foul temper has put her on the bad side of many Yuribans. In particular she holds grudges against Crystal, Gaz and July.

History

Chastity Mitchell was born to a military family in a hospital in Bozeman, Montana, but she and her family moved out to a farm in the countryside when she was three months old, tilling crops for a living. Her father, George Honorius Mitchell, served in the Vietnam War as a pilot of an F104 Starfighter, having married Chastity's mother Constance after meeting her aboard an aircraft carrier. She was the youngest of four siblings; her eldest brother, Kirk, was born in 1972, Harry in 1974, and Douglas in 1977. In 1982 she gained another sibling, a younger brother named Aaron. As the lone female child Chastity was raised largely by her mother. Alas, on March 15, 1983, Constance Mitchell died in her sleep. This left Chastity the lone girl in a house inhabited by five men.

Though Chastity grieved for her mother she eventually learned to adapt to the lifestyle of her father, struggling to prove to him and to her brothers that she could be just as much a man as they were. She took on the nickname Chase and began cutting her hair short, discarding her dresses for men's clothes. From a young age the little Chase was running errands all over the farm, fetching eggs and tools for her father and brothers. As she reached her teenage years she joined her family in the fields, the hard labour toughening her body. Her male-dominated surroundings affected her social development profoundly. Lacking a feminine role model, Chase grew up behaving like a man, sporting a vocabulary that could make a pirate blanch. She had few female friends, and in fact her peers of her sex gave her a wide berth for fear of her great strength (demonstrated when she broke the arm of the school's biggest bully in fourth grade). Yet despite this she did retain some traces of femininity; these grew a bit more evidenced when she came into contact with the idea of feminism.

At age sixteen Chase decided to follow in her father's footsteps and join the Air Force. Thus in 1995 she headed off to her local recruiting office, lying outrageously about her age and playing on her father's former connections to earn herself a position in the military. She spent a lot of time training before being assigned to an airbase in South Carolina, bidding her family a fond farewell. She served there for several years, returning home between tours to pursue part-time education as a mechanical engineer. Yet things changed for Chase after September 11, 2001. She was transferred to an aircraft carrier and set behind the controls of an F-14 Tomcat, shipped off to Afghanistan to fight the Taliban. Lieutenant Mitchell saw extensive action in the ensuing conflict and even more action when the war in Iraq broke out. She was promoted to Captain in recognition of her exemplary service; she and her copilot, a Georgia-born black woman by the name of Alice Jackson, were responsible for a number of highly successful air strikes that saved a lot of coalition lives.

The downfall of Captain Mitchell began when the war in Iraq began to drag on interminably, long past projections. She grew bitter with the conduct of the American government. Yet the seeds had been sown even before this, because in defiance of military regulation Chase and Alice had fallen in love. The two spent much of their off-duty time in Chase's quarters, and Chase soon grew to trust the woman implicitly, a trust Alice returned. Both issues came to a head at once when in 2005 Chase was brought before a board of inquiry on charges of being a lesbian and of spreading subversive criticism of the Bush administration. She responded by insisting that who she slept with had no bearing on how well she defended her country. This failed to convince her commanding officers, who discharged her and sent her home. Chase's departure from her ship marked the last time she'd see Alice Jackson or her beloved F-14 again.

Embittered by her discharge, Chase spent several months back home with her father and brothers, lamenting the gall of the military to discharge her for being a lesbian and for hating the man she considered the worst president of all time. Her bitterness opened her eyes to the prejudice against homosexuals all around her, a prejudice fueled by knowledge of her discharge. After several particularly nasty encounters with anti-gay religious fundamentalists Chase decided she had had enough of America. She chartered a ferry to Japan, wished her family farewell, and sailed overseas, arranging to have her prized possession brought with her - her plane, a gift from her father. Upon reaching Japan she flew out to Yuriba in search of a landing strip, eventually settling on a field well outside the village proper. She settled in this field and marked it off as her private landing strip, and to this day she resides there.
