Videl's character was based strongly off one of same name from Dragonball Z, although they diverged in many significant ways.

Videl was an early immigrant to Yuriba whose exploits are now mostly lost to the annals of time. Proficient with Ki (chi) fighting, she set up a dojo near the end of her time on Yuriba and taught a small number of residents, including Saberwind, who was a personal friend. Videl was also very close friends with Sonia. Videl was competent with tailoring outfits; her maker's mark was a paw-print design.
