"Tilt", first name undisclosed, was born sometime between 1990 and 1996, of largely unknown parentage. While her history is a subject that Tilt herself actively perpetuates as mysterious, it's still clear that she's a relatively normal girl of American origins.

Family
If asked herself, Tilt will generally claim that she does not have biological parents. Whether she is an orphan or perhaps the victim of abuse, the subject is nonetheless one that she refuses to discuss. Regardless, at the age of 12, she adopted by the Thorn family.
Charlotte and Megumi Thorn were a couple in their twenties, married for about two years prior to Tilt's adoption. Both were themselves born in the United States, though Megumi's parents and Charlotte's grandparents immigrated from Japan and Britain, respectively. As Megumi's family refused to accept their marriage, Megumi insited upon taking Charlotte's surname of 'Thorn', as Charlotte's own remaining family was generally more accepting.
The nickname 'Tilt' is one accredited to Megumi, though Tilt does not often speak even of her adopted parents-- though the simple fact that she has no aversion to using their surname shows that she holds them in some esteem. Other than her adopted mothers, Tilt has little other family to speak of, namely Charlotte's mother and sisters. Megumi's side of the family, given their hostility, Tilt is entirely unfamiliar with.
History
Prior to Yuriba, Tilt had lived with her adopted parents until 18, whereafter she immediately moved to a place of her own. She claims to have taken college courses, but there are no records of her graduation. As for employment, she has had a surprising variety of work, though no real career direction, beyond a sting in computer science and another in teaching. While it's not much known how long she spent living on her own in the United States, at some point, Tilt felt the need to travel to Japan. Of course, she never made it to Japan proper, instead finding herself washing up on the shores of Yuriba.
Personality
Outwardly, Tilt tends to have a relaxed, if somewhat detached disposition. She has a tendency to ramble when speaking, though she tends to be more reserved around crowds unless she can find something with which to preoccupy herself. While she's almost always friendly, she has trouble with openly showing casual affection. That said, since her arrival, her understanding of Yuriban culture has let her open up a bit, if in curious ways. Tilt is generally flexible and empathetic; she will typically soften up and accommodate those with more reserved or deferential personalities, yet, more assertive or demanding persons will find her to be anywhere from stoic to competitive.
Around those with more relaxed personalities, Tilt tends towards asking questions, listening closely to what someone has to say, and generally being friendly and helpful when she has the chance. She has a habit of dismissing affection that she doesn't feel that there's any reason for her to expect, and she herself tends to be particularly reluctant to show much affection of hero own to those who clearly lack for none of it at the time. Still, much as she dislikes the thought of her affections being seen as 'cheap', and she feels uncomfortable with accepting the affections of others when she sees them as misplaced, she still enjoys closeness much as any other. When she does manage to get comfortable around someone, however, Tilt also quite enjoys teasing those receptive to such, and she actually has a fair sense of humor in general.
By contrast, around more active personalities, Tilt tends to be a bit more on guard, with more of a calculating wariness wherein she will likely try to keep to herself. Barring that, she doesn't tend to get swept along by what others may want of her, and she will often contest aggressive claims out of simple force of habit-- even when well-meaning, more assertive sorts tend to have her shifting to a more competitive mindset. She actually has a bit of an inferiority complex at times, which only amplifies her hatred of losing at much of anything in which she feels confident. Success or control of some kind will generally allow her to relax, but she is easily frustrated by failure. While it does bother her that she's, in her words, so 'petty', she just doesn't like feeling worse off than someone else. That said, once a context of conflict is resolved, she tends to be more open with someone, regardless of the fervor of their personality.
Tilt doesn't tend to be easily offended, and she tends to be comfortable with most topics of conversation that don't involve particularly personal questions about herself, though she is actually quite easily startled by proximity-- someone walking up behind her or prodding her arm would get a more surprised reaction than most fantastical magics. That said, in general, she tends to be rather fearless. It's not that she lacks for fears, of course, but that she tends to handle them rather well. She might not like being near bugs, being underwater, standing somewhere high, or being around high tension/pressure, but she isn't the sort to really freak out entirely, and they don't keep her from swimming, climbing, or so on. That said, perhaps the only real fear that truly eats at her is that of isolation.
Given her minimal experience with friendships and romance, Tilt tends to be rather sensitive to being excluded. She's used to orbiting groups, being drawn in only as a substitute of sorts, and so she never really ends up sticking to any group for long. As such, she tends to assume herself to be unimportant without some kind of tangible proof, which can be difficult. As such, she has trouble accepting that she's anyone's friend, and she's never had anything like a 'best' friend, as she always sees herself as never coming first to anyone else. In particular, though, this has her feeling insecure about romantic relationships, as her minimal experiences have, unfortunately, always proven to strike her fears directly-- either through cheating or insincerity. While she herself has no innate need for monogamy in a relationship, she finds it extremely difficult to see herself as special to another.
Abilities
Tilt's origins are mundane, and so her talents are likewise, but she'll be the first to tell you that one's abilities needn't be fantastical to be worthwhile. Still, barring some curse in the future, one shouldn't be expecting anything supernatural or the like from her.
Fighting: Tilt is far from a powerhouse, and she's not even much of a martial artist, given her rather minimal study of such arts. She's learned more than enough for the simple purpose of self-defense, of course, but much of that has been self-taught to some extent. Her strength and stamina are slightly above and below average respectively, and her only real physical advantage is that of height. Still, there's something to be said for a quick wit and no concept of a fair fight-- how much help that might be, of course, would vary widely.
Running: Tilt quite enjoys running and climbing, even if she rather lacks the stamina for much of it. While it's certainly nothing impressive, she does have some small bit of practice with Parkour, mostly just fueled by her own impatience with walking around things more than any real aspirations towards the acrobatic. Still, it's generally enough for her, considering she tends to favor flight over fight.
Japanese: Tilt can speak a moderate amount of the language, as well as read and write in Hiragana and Katakana, though she has grown rusty with the written language in particular, and she has never much learned Kanji. As she's never had much chance to use it, her knowledge never much graduated by some limited conversational Japanese with a variety of miscellaneous vocabulary heaped on top of that, but it's still enough that she could scrape by if need be.
Games: Given that games are a major interest of Tilt's, largely in part due to her limited ability to play them in her isolated life before Yuriba, she has developed a knack not just for picking up a game's rules quickly, but also for creating them. Be it word games or card games or something else entirely, Tilt has always enjoyed making up little rules and goals in such a way.
Piano: Tilt can play a small assortment of songs on the piano, none of which are explicitly difficult to perform to begin with. Still, she does play more than simple exercises, at least, and she mostly just taught herself to play whatever songs she liked that felt easy enough for her to learn. Perhaps the only impressive part of this is that she learned in a play-by-ear method, but the fact that she can only just read sheet music and that she can't play 'two handed' songs rather offsets that.
Cooking: Tilt's cooking ability is best described as binary: there are a dozen or so dishes that she can make perfectly, and then she's simply clueless as to those that she's never cooked. Mechanical difficulty seems no obstacle to this, strangely, as she could make Japanese-styled curry rice before she could make grilled cheese, and she can bake bread from scratch but doesn't know how to make pancakes. Suffice to say, once taught, she can replicate most meals, but she has no real deeper understanding of cooking-- it's all steps and measurements to her.
Massage: Contrary to most of her minor skills, Tilt rather happened upon her talent for massage without any prior practice or study. She has no idea of the terminology nor the mechanics of what she's doing, yet, she's a bit of a natural, which helps her to knead the tension out of others despite no knowledge of what she's doing. While she'll normally simply say that she's just good with her hands, the simple reality of it is that her particularly tactile style of learning just makes this something she finds much more intuitive than most. That said, she is, of course, an amateur, and she's not going to be performing any chiropractic magic or the like.
Description
Tilt looks to be an extremely tall girl in her late teens or early twenties. Her skin looks to be fair and featureless, and her dark brown hair is in a loose braid of moderate length. Her simple attire includes a black t-shirt, a teal, pleated skirt, and black sandals.
The dark brown hair that tops Tilt's head has what's likely meant to be a straight cut, though the thick tresses waver a bit voluminously as they fall just past her shoulders to spoil that effect. Instead, those wavy locks have a fair bit of natural curl, with no amount of brushing quite enough to quite work them out. Still, while there is that tendency to tangle, it seems that Tilt can generally keep her hair from becoming any real mess, and there's nonetheless a pleasantly sleek look to it wherever she can keep things tidy. Regardless, Tilt's hair is parted off center, a bit to her right (to the left to one facing her), with no real bangs to speak of, and at least one side of her hair can usually be seen tucked behind one of her ears.
As such, her lightly curved eyebrows are in full view: tidy, but in such a way that their thin make grants a bit more intensity to her visage. Her eyes themselves are rather large, though her tendency to narrow them in any but the softest light tends to offset this. Their lashes are fairly mild, as is the simply black liner that traces them, so it's mostly their hazel-green hue that's apt to catch one's attention, if only because they tend to appear as different shades of green, brown, blue, or even red, depending on the light. Overall, Tilt's face has a thinner jaw, and a softly rounded shape. She has a petite, straight-sloped nose and soft, thin lips, which look to be unpainted, having a color only slightly more pink than her particularly fair skin tone. On that note, her smooth skin looks to lack for flaws, with neither wrinkle nor freckle interrupting its pale appearance.
Tilt's particularly slender frame reaches a decidedly extreme height of six feet, with long, flexible arms and legs that make for a somewhat spindling look. Still, while she looks to have rather minimal muscle, that slim figure does at least accentuate her otherwise quite average curves. Tilt's t-shirt is of a fairly loose make, fluttering slightly and doing little to outline her moderate bust, though its thin make still makes it clear that she's wearing something beneath. The simple top looks to be a soft cotton, and its consistent dark teal hue lacks for further frills or design. The pleated skirt about Tilt's limited waist is entirely red, save for its thin black waistband. It has a light, simple make, and length enough to reach about halfway down her thighs. On her feet are a rather simple pair of open-toed sandals, made from a simple black rubber.
