Sunshine
Sunshine is the common name for a distilled beverage made from Sun berries. It derives its name not only from the fruit from which it is made, but also from the yellow flame that is produced when it is burned, due to trace amounts of naturally occurring sodium carbonate.
Sun berries are fermented during the fall months, distilled to remove fusel alcohols, then freeze-distilled over the course of the cold winter months. A batch usually takes nine months, from start to finish, becoming available at the beginning of the summer months. The long freeze distillation process, but uncharacteristically lower alcohol content produced is a byproduct of Yuriba's geography as an island. Typically, the end result is 25% alcohol by volume, not unlike shochu. Sunshine has a flavor not unlike ice wine, that is very sweet, but not cloying due to the high acidity.
Sunshine is consumed in very, very small amounts, as the combination of caffeine and alcohol sometimes leads to unsafe behavior amongst inexperienced drinkers.
