Moe-tan is a Kami that recently arrived in Yuriba. Her full name is actually just Moe, which is pronounced Mow'-eh, but she often speaks of herself in third person with the cutesy suffix -tan, hence Moe-tan.

Kami Nature and Powers

Moe-tan is a kami (spirit) born of the collective fascination with all things Moe (roughly, attractive or cute, though it is an otaku slang term and so definitions can vary greatly). She does not naturally have a material form, and usually manifests as a translucent, illusory image accompanied by other minor illusions, but has discovered (through the help of Alice_Toshiba and Gemini) that she can manifest in the physical world if a sentient being there wishes her to.

She reacts to the wishes of those around her, whether conscious or subconscious, provided they are directed toward her and involve something Moe. The degree of reaction seems to be proportional to the strength of the feelings shared between the wisher and Moe-tan herself. This can lead to great variations in Moe-tan's attire and even physical appearance, though most of the time, she defaults to appearing as a green haired girl in her teens with lavender eyes, a lively smile, and an impressive set of curves on her body.

Moe-tan does not actively participate in religion herself, but, as a Kami, is by nature part of the Shinto religion. She has great respect for Miko and others involved in the Shinto faith along with the shrines they maintain, but also strongly respects Goddesses and great spirits of other faiths along with their servants. Though she does not encourage people to pay any sort of religious devotion to her, she believes it is her duty to spread beauty and cuteness by granting the wishes of those around her who long for such things.

Personality/Psychological Data

Moe-tan is a vivacious, though not incredibly bright young Kami. Her personality is happy and bubbly most of the time, though she is easily embarrassed and blushes quite often. She has a need to be around beautiful or cute people or things and is easily distracted, sometimes getting lost during her seeking. Her mood is a bit more steady than her image, but can still be affected by the wishes of those around her, though she seems to be able to control it a bit better than she does her outward appearance. Moe-tan herself does not have a specific sexual orientation, but she reacts to the feelings of those around her and so on Yuriba, she ends up pretty strongly lesbian. The Kami also has difficulty conceptualizing time the same way humans do and can disappear in her wanderings for extended periods without warning or really understanding the impact such disappearances have on humans she knows. When she is actually present, however, she usually manages to have fairly good timing, more in reaction to the wishes of those around her than being able to keep a schedule herself.

Background

Moe-tan herself does not know exactly how old she is or how she came to be. She does know that she was born of the collective 'love felt by people all over the world for things cute and wonderful' and that along with her mannerisms related to otaku culture and Japanese culture in general indicate that she may be up to thirty five years of age, since that is roughly how long cuteness has been a major fad in current Japanese culture.

She came to Yuriba in September of 2008, likely attracted by the strong concentration of cuteness lovers. Her early time was mostly spent wandering around, looking at cute people and things, but before too long she met Alice_Toshiba, who she came to love. Together, they discovered a way for her to manifest in the physical realm and Moe was elated to be actually able to hold the person she cared about.

In her continued wanderings, Moe-tan eventually met Asuna Asagiri, a Miko who mistook her for a maid employed by her fiance Mirabelle at Caislean Dubhcoille because of Moe-tan's maid outfit, and this inspired the Kami to seek employment there, believing it part of her duty. She was hired, but shortly thereafter vanished off to a conference of Kami (for quite some time in human terms, thanks to her own lack of temporal understanding and the uncertain nature of time in the spirit world) where she learned more about her duty as a Kami and reason for existence. She has since returned and begun her employment as a maid in earnest, and is slowly getting to know the residents of the castle.

Other Information

No matter what her current appearance, Moe-tan usually has some collection of illusory objects floating around nearby, often with some thematic link to her current attire. Sometimes one of these objects appears with various quips of snide commentary on Moe-tan written on it for any nearby viewers, but the Kami herself does not seem to ever realize that this is going on.
