Modesty
Modesty refers to a set of cultural or religious norms relating to the presentation of oneself to others. It can refer to physical modesty, sexual modesty, or to modesty about one's character or accomplishments, though the latter is better referred to as humility.

Body Modesty
Given the absence of males in Yuriba and the fact that many Yuribans in the modern period practice a hedonistic lifestyle, it would stand to reason that the local concept of physical modesty would be fairly light, but this is not always the case. It is generally considered acceptable for Yuribans to wear light and often revealing clothing, and it is not uncommon to see women walking around in nothing but swimsuits even during the winter. Public nudity is acceptable in areas such as the Hot Spring and will occasionally be tolerated in public, but many businesses will not admit nude guests, and common courtesy as well as local regulations dictate that one should clothe oneself when asked.
However, there are limits to Yuriba's otherwise lenient stance on physical modesty. It is considered unseemly to wear clothes that are too' revealing, and many residents frown upon public nudity despite the law tolerating it to an extent. Those residents who dress in a manner intended to overtly sexualize themselves are viewed in a bad light by many.
Only the exposure of male genitalia is officially considered indecent exposure, though the exposure of female genitalia in a state of arousal is typically seen as indecent as well.
Public Affection and Sex
Public displays of affection are generally considered acceptable in Yuriba, though only to a point. It is common to see girls kissing, embracing, and even tackling each other in public places. However, heavier sexual conduct is considered unsuitable for public consumption. While sex in the Hot Springs is technically permitted, most locals consider it shameful. Outside of the Springs, sex in public is not permitted, and almost all public business areas will not permit their customers to have sex while on the premises.
Overtly sexual forms of dress and behaviour, particularly bondage collars, are not permitted in public areas. While some have argued that this stance is overly prudish, Yuriba exercises a lowest-possible-tolerance policy towards sexual behaviour in order to accomodate visitors with different opinions on what constitutes modesty. While basic nudity is tolerated, non-vanilla sexual conduct is considered something for the privacy of one's own home, as not all visitors are tolerant of sexual fetishes being performed in the streets.
It is not uncommon for residents to openly take on several lovers, and sex is a frequent occurrence between strangers or those who have just met. While most do not consider it shameful to have multiple partners, there are those who view the sexually promiscuous with amusement or in some cases disdain. Similarly, the overly prudish are often the victims of teasing.
Males
Given the nature of Yuriba, males and those with male genitalia are held to a far stricter standard of modesty than females. New male immigrants are no longer allowed on the island, although a few long-standing individuals still live there. Under most circumstances a provocatively-clad male will be viewed in a negative light, and a male seeking sexual intercourse with a female will generally be treated with great derision and disgust. It is against village law for men to appear nude in public or to engage in public sex.
Many native Yuribans view female-male sexual intercourse as bestiality and consider it shameful for men to dress provocatively in public. Females who seek sexual contact with males are often viewed unfavourably.
Privacy
Yuriban modesty conventions do not extend beyond the public domain. While residents are expected to maintain a certain degree of modesty in public, they may behave as they please in private areas.
