Mast Cat

The mast cat is slightly larger than an average house cat and completely feral. A majority have dark fur, though their patterns and colors vary with lighter colors in younger generations. They are avid swimmers in both fresh and salt water. they also prey on smaller animals and a variety of local fish. Bright blue is a common eye color, though emerald green has been seen as well. The mast cat is commonly found near beaches or washed up shipwrecks, living in packs of three to five. Their predilection for living or socializing in wrecked ships is what earned them their name. During winter months they migrate closer to the village while maintaining their distance.

Due to Yuriba's unique location, the island is no stranger to shipwrecks. Feline survivors have congregated amongst beached wreckage and mingled with local feline populations. Physically, save for being slightly larger and having different colored eyes, these cats are no different than the average domesticated feline. However due to their pack-mentality and preference for water they are believed to be touched by Issui. It is said that they carry messages from the goddesses to the sea and back again. An uncommon belief is that an appearance of a pack near your home indicates a great change.
