Lakequartz

Lakequartz is a type of mineral found in Yuriban streams and lakes. The mineral tends towards a white color, although depending on the composition can range from a daisy-yellow to a sky blue. Most notably the rock is fairly soft, and can be carved with even woodworking tools. However, when fired the crystalline structure of the mineral changes to become hard and fixed. The prevalence of this mineral and its ease to work with along with the potential permanence leads it to be used as a common crafting material.

Many small carvings, statues, and toys exist made from this material. Larger chunks can be fashioned and set into plates to create imprints or stamps, or used as a test run for a design on a more valuable material. And it is not unheard of to see residents go diving for chunks, and spend the day by the water working them into offering for Issui. These offerings are often carved into the shape of aquatic creatures, set in a campfire, and thrown back in after a prayer. The bucolic ritual represents a thankfulness for Issui's bounty, and the fired totem a testament to inevitability.
