Kigaki
Kigaki is a 'goddess' of hunger and insatiability. She was supposedly a minor goddess of the Yuriban pantheon. Her existence is poorly documented and debated due scarce information even in documentation considered heretical. She is focused purely on the self and the act of satiating an insatiable hunger, which rules her mind and spirit. Kigaki is said to haunt the border of Yuriba trying to hunt and devour anyone trying to leave or enter the island's seas, but further research has brought up the possibility that her existence was inspired by an outside culture, splitting historians in two general camps of belief: of her having existed and those who consider her an outside inspired story intended as a lesson.
Discovery and Critique
Kigaki's existence was made known during The Hungry Others incident of 2015 when a host of malformed flesh-monsters attacked Yuriba via the south-eastern beach. Further information about Kigaki was discovered in a critique on ancient religious texts discovered by Belialtrix. However, further study including cross referencing dates and other events contemporary with the few texts which mention Kigaki have brought forth the information that her initial appearance in documentation coincides with a period of time where trade with a Nordic culture was noted for a short period. Scholars of Earth religions were then quick to point out that Nordic culture has stories of similar style, complete with the eating of the sun during an eclipse and other world devouring creatures, and legends abound among the sea-faring culture of mysterious and dangerous creatures populating the sea, this discovery being the point where the two camps of belief around her existence have sprung.
In the apocryphal Yuriban mythos, Kigaki was banished from Yuriba for causing destruction at an unheard of level by The Lady. She had done this three times and was going to be destroyed if not for an unknown factor begging clemency. The Lady stayed her hand but banished Kigaki from Yuriba, knowing she would forever be trying to return to her place of origin, unable to flee from Yuriba into the greater cosmos lest she come undone. An unknown force keeps her in check. This is one of the main points of contention between researchers who think her story is a superstition not unlike a cautionary fairy tale or 'boogeymonster' to warn natives of the risks of travel far from the island via boat, born from lore from the Nordic traders. The main critique of the story centering on the behavior of The Lady, and rightfully asked questions of why Kigaki would warrant such a drastic banishment while Inishie is rightfully regarded as a needed force of destruction on the island and not banished despite having destroyed entire cultures before. Those who think that Kigaki exists often counter this with noting that many feel that Inishie is a creation goddess of a more violent fashion, not purely destructive like Kigaki is.
Associations
Due to her removal from religious canon, she has little to nothing associated with her besides hunger and destruction. She does have a symbol: an ocher diamond that is supposedly representing the face of a woman. The right side starting from the direct center has been completely painted in with the same ocher coloring. On the left side is an eye, an ugly bloodshot thing positioned above a snarling, jagged tooth mouth.
Lore
What little is known is now considered more of just a superstition. Old text has uncovered that one of the explanations for a solar eclipse was a sign that the goddess Kigaki was trying to devour the sun and Kikoutei. The return of the sun after the eclipse was taken as a sign that Kikoutei once again fended off Kigaki's attack. While the details are scarce many natives still have a sense of misgiving when seeing a solar eclipse, which historians sometimes attribute to the Nordic influence and cultural favoring of more grisly lore that they brought with them, while some still hold fast to the native origin.
