Curia appears as a mostly normal teenage girl with the addition of feline ears and tail. Like many girls with these feline features, her body proportion is sleek and matches the feminine ideal closely, slender and moderately endowed for her age. Residents of the island often confuse her with someone with a blessing from the Maonyanniichuan spring, but her appearance is the result of heritage not magic.
Curia stands about 5' 6" (168cm) in height and has brown hair and eyes. Her feline features are patterned like those of a leopard, a base of sandy colored fur with darker markings in rosette patterns. Otherwise her hair is a dark, walnut brown, worn in a simple cut, coming to the base of her neck in back, with slightly longer bangs that fall along the sides of her face, sometimes getting in her eyes.
Her smooth skin is naturally a light tan, but during the summer months it's darkened to a deeper bronze as she spends much of her time on the beach.
Clothing
Her stay on the island being mostly during the summer months, Curia spends most of her time on the beaches along the southern half of the island and her usual attire reflects the fact.
She is often seen wearing a dark colored bikini when lounging on the beach, and with the addition of a pair of auburn colored light cotton pants when she is away from the seaside.
She is also a part time waitress at the Tail Club, a dining establishment in southern Yuriba catering to customers with animalistic features. While she is on duty as a waitress, she can be found wearing the pink and white checkered dress that makes up the uniform there, usually with the addition of a pair of roller skates to make delivering food more effortless.
Personality
Curia is generally a cheerful person. She is genuinely happy to be on the island and especially enjoys spending time on the beaches during the summer months. The fact that people here accept her feline heritage without shock or suspicion has also been a factor in her decision to make her home here for a while. This has added to her personality, and she does her best to extend the same courtesy to those she meets on the island, no matter how different they appear.
In general, Curia is quite talkative and appreciates light hearted conversation. Her leopardine heritage makes her wary of large groups, however and she often becomes daunted and stressed in crowds and has a tendency to fall silent or over react in such situations. She has an especially high aversion to romance in group situations, possibly related to her leopard tendencies to hunt alone.
Having grown up in human society, Curia does not show much leopardlike aggressiveness in general, but is definitely not shy.
Biography
Curia was born at a UN Medical outpost in the mountains of northeast Burma, along the Chinese border to unmarried parents, a Canadian medic, John Miller, and a leopardine woman named Leonia, on July 1, 1991. Her mother was also a hybrid offspring with both human and leopardine heritage, which made Curia two generations removed from the pure blooded tribes of her ancestors.
Because of her feline features, Curia was not easily accepted in human society and, because of her human blood, would have had similar troubles being accepted by the leopardine tribes. Due to the scattered nature of leopard society, there was a chance that she would be able to find a mate and become part of their culture, but the decision was made for her while she was still an infant. In 1991, Burma was still shaky under the rule of the militaristic State Law and Order Restoration Council government. It was not a place for idealists, and especially not for someone who looked so different. She was given to her father to be taken with him when his UN medical unit was reassigned out of the country.
Although her father's medical unit was usually assigned to remote, rural areas, Curia was kept sheltered for most of her life due to her unusual appearance. Sometimes she was allowed out in the evenings, or wearing heavy clothing to keep her from causing a scandal. It took a long time before she was even accepted among the members of her father's medical unit. One newly assigned nurse immediately filed for a reassignment when he discovered her, claiming that he was being exposed to unnatural working conditions with her around. Even so, Curia was given a decent education through tutoring and self study. She took up a position as the cook for the group, which is something that she really enjoyed.
As she became a teenager, she filed for Canadian citizenship and it was granted, though she has never been to North America. Her last home before she came to Yuriba was in rural farming village in Japan, near Osaka.
As her 17th birthday approached, she finally decided to strike out on her own and was on her way to Okinawa with the goal of perhaps studying cooking and making her way to Hawaii and on to America.
On the ocean voyage, she spent most of her time well below deck as far from the other passengers as possible as she was continually wary of the attention her appearance would attract. When her boat made an unscheduled stop at Yuriba, she mistook it for the Okinawan port of call and disembarked. By the time she realized her error, the boat had vanished, leaving her on the island. She took it all in stride, however, since though she'd have liked to end up where she intended, Yuriba quickly became her ideal home.
Life in Yuriba
Curia knew that she had found a new home when the residents of Yuriba did not react adversely to her appearance, but even welcomed her because of it. That combined with the warm weather, sandy beaches, and free food made it hard to resist. Her first instinct upon arriving was to find a job as a cook, since it was what she had been doing for most of her life. She applied at the Tail Club , a restaurant that catered to people with animalistic features. Her application as a cook was denied but she became a part time waitress instead, and found the work to be enjoyable.
She often takes a little too much advantage of the part-time status of her job to enjoy the beaches, but works diligently when on duty as a waitress.
Relationships
Curia has met many people during her short stay on the island, all of which have been pleasant and friendly. She is generally cheerful and will try to talk to anyone who will listen, so she has made a number of friends.
In the past her sexual preference and, even more so, her feline features have been a major stumbling block to romantic interaction. Her emotional inexperience shows quite evidently when it comes to dating. She lacks the resilience of someone who is more familiar with the dating game and is especially mystified by many of the social practices of the island which go contrary to what she had previously come to accept as the social norm.
She is prone to become despondent when a date or attempt at romance goes awry. Several times, she has believed herself to be on a date, only to find her partner inviting friends, or flirting with other women. In such cases she is likely to withdraw rather than seek to continue the encounter.
Curia is not currently involved in a romantic relationship with anyone, but there are people whose company she especially enjoys. Since she is still in her late teens, she has not even considered the idea of marriage or of searching for permanent mate.
One of Curia's common customers, a new girl named Miry seems to admire her a lot for her outgoing nature. It does not appear to be full-blown love--or even a crush, yet, but apparently the girl does enjoy her company greatly.
