Caoimhe is a native Yuriban kitsune who has visited the village sporadically since 2009, most recently returning in early 2011. She's most often found at the Starlight Shrine but has also been spotted minding an elaborate fortunetelling tent prone to appearing and disappearing at random along various village streets.

Character
In many ways Caoimhe is typical of many native black-furred kitsune in being both outgoing and mischievous at heart, but she's hardly undignified about it. In most situations she conducts herself with an air of dignified mystery, deliberately presenting herself as a little enigmatic in order to keep those she meets guessing about what she'll do next. She wouldn't have it any other way, mind - if there's one thing she delights in, it's keeping people off-balance and laughing inwardly at them. An unrepentant tease at heart, Caoimhe tends to keep her humour down to surgically-delivered quips and barbs, and she's not above delivering a devastating one-liner in the most offhand fashion she can possibly muster. She revels in good conversation and cherishes quiet time spent with intelligent people who challenge her mentally. Though she often appears to be a highly sensual woman and could almost be described as a femme fatale, she's seldom intimate, and when she does flirt it's often just for the sake of it. She's not one to fill space with excess words, though occasional small talk at least amuses her at times. Adventurous at heart, she loves meeting new people and won't shy away from new experiences.
Caoimhe is one to cherish her down time when she can gets it. As a priestess of Tenteisei she spends a lot of time alone in meditation or reflection, and she places great importance on dreams. Though she's incredibly perceptive and often sees things about people even they don't know, she tends to keep a lot of that information to herself. She migrates often to warm, dry places with ample light, or at least to dark areas with a single vividly-lit area. Though she's long past her days as a Skywatcher she's still an avid stargazer and can often be found out and about at night. She also collects Yuriban Tarot cards and has several full decks on hand, which she uses to read fortunes for passers-by on rare occasions. Though her own abilities to look into the future are much more advanced than the Tarot, the cards allow for a simple and handy method of giving others a glimpse at what could be - and besides, she loves how they react.
Notably, Caoimhe despises having her tails touched. When someone touches them involuntarily, she's been known to turn that person into something embarrassing. At least one Underhillian has taken a grope at her luxurious poofy tails only to walk away a newly-minted squirrelgirl or frog-girl. While Japanese kitsune are prone to eating those who touch their tails, Caoimhe is more generous and tends to let a period of time spent with buck teeth stand on its own.
Romantic preferences
Caoimhe identifies as polyamorous, but she doesn't actively look for romance. Her interest is mainly in finding engaging conversation partners who can stimulate her mentally. While she occasionally takes casual lovers as playmates, she finds it difficult to breed a strong relationship when there's no intellectual foundation for it to stand on. Those she's closest to are those who present a challenge to her intellect and who can entice her through conversation and attitude first and foremost. She's a strong personality and tends to take control of her relationships without question.
Relationships
Caoimhe's time in Yuriba has been relatively sporadic but she seems to have at least struck up an acquaintance with the young Sentry Ella, whose purview she crosses over with to some extent. She's found some connection to Molly Harlan in the form of early conversations and has acquainted herself in passing with breisleach and Kinuko, the latter of whom she views as helpless. Most recently she has taken on Anna as her apprentice.
In prior visits she appeared to be steering towards a more intimate involvement with Kaleaithne, but the relationship was abruptly dissolved after the salamander touched Caoimhe's tails. Caoimhe promptly turned her into a ferretgirl. Since then Kale hasn't spoken to her, and Caoimhe looks back at the incident with a bit of regret.
History
Caoimhe tends to be a little coy about her early life, but it's clear she was born in Underhill as the eldest of four sisters. It's also known that she's only talked to one of those sisters, youngest sister Caoilfhionn, in the last two centuries; the two seem completely estranged from the other two sisters and from one of their mothers. Beyond family squabbles Caoimhe was evidently a fairly morose child, spending much of her time alone under the stars, often just stargazing or burying her nose in a book. Her connection to the stars dates from her youth, which led her naturally down the path to Tenteisei's teachings. Amateur astrology turned to a curious foresight and a deeper understanding of the stars as the years went on. Eventually she turned to the study of the star goddess in earnest, training for about 250 years.
Sometime during her 150th year she seemed to grow up all at once, getting over her more depressive tendencies and coming to terms with herself. She began to gain confidence as her understanding of the world and the future grew. Sometime during this period she met a trio of women - two salamanders named Nalani and Leochae and another kitsune named Lark, with whom she settled into a comfortable four-way romantic relationship. The deteriorating relationship between Caoimhe and her two middle sisters, Cearuilin and Conchenn, evidently stems from some catastrophic falling-out between Conchenn and Nalani, the fallout from which broke up the happy foursome and left Caoimhe more than a little furious with her sister.
About 175 years ago Caoimhe was designated a SkyWatcher and spent four years living out of a ruined tower on Yuriba itself, years before Phil-chan came along to found the village. She returned from the time in isolation wiser and steadier, though the sheer solitude of the island bothered her enough that she took to socializing more and eventually developed a reputation in her circles as a bit of a femme fatale, fed by her combination of charm, mystery, grace and social openness. Suffice it to say she was somewhat popular in her corner of Underhill.
